Living like a local

Ok, I wouldn't go that far since we've only been here two days but we did manage to take multiple crowded, music-blasting buses to a new beach (and back) and buy food down at the local market.  I realize I'm making it sound like we're in a country that doesn't speak English (which they do) but I've mainly heard the local Vincentian Creole so it felt like we were in a non-English speaking country today.

We ventured to Buccamont Bay which was on the leeward coast.  We are on the windward side which may be why the weather is so erratic but most certainly why all the sailboats are on this side.  St Vincent is a lush, hilly island that is the largest of the 30 islands that comprise the nation.  About 106,000 people live here and archaeological evidence points to inhabitants living on the island all the way back to 150 AD.   It is also home to one of the most studied volcanoes, next to Mount St. Helen, and I do hope we can hike it when we return!

Anyhow, we swam with the new snorkels, which have traveled from Germany (thanks Dale!) to Colorado to here, and saw lots of fish.  Then we rode back to town for a roadside lunch of rice, swordfish and herring.  Buses and food were all less than $12 total.  Once back, it was time to watch the beautiful sunset, study and re-pack for our sailing adventure tomorrow!
